The verdict disclaimer — read this one
Every green, yellow, red, dash and question mark ReallyFree shows is our opinion of a web page at a point in time, measured against the standard we publish. It is not a statement of fact about a company, its honesty, its legality, or its worth. Specifically:
- We judge the offer on the page, not the company behind it. A red dot means a price was found. It is not an accusation of wrongdoing. Charging money is a normal, legitimate thing for a business to do.
- Sites change; our answer ages. A verdict reflects what we saw when we last looked. A site can change its terms an hour later, and we will be out of date until we look again.
- We judge from the United States. Pricing, free allowances and availability differ by country. What we see may not be what you see.
- We can be wrong, and we publish how to tell us so. Anyone — a user or a company — can write to us with the page, the dot we showed, and what they actually saw. A person reads it. If we were wrong we correct the record, and the correction reaches everyone. How to tell us we got it wrong.
- The verdict is never for sale. Not the colour, not the position, not the removal of a yellow or a red. Nobody can pay us to change a dot, and nobody has.
Use the dots as a hint, not as a contract. Read the site's own terms before you spend money, and check the price yourself. We accept no liability for a decision you make on the basis of a dot.
Using ReallyFree
- The extension is provided free, as-is, with no warranty. It may be unavailable, wrong, or discontinued.
- No account, no login and no password exists. You are not required to identify yourself to use any part of it.
- Don't try to break the service, scrape it wholesale, or resell our data as your own. If you want the data, ask — we're reasonable.
- We may change or withdraw the service. If we shut down, members get the unused part of their year back.
Membership
- Membership costs $9.95 per year (normal price $19.95). Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax your country adds.
- Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Membership is recognised by the email address you paid with. Enter the same address in the extension. There is nothing else to set up.
- What membership includes: the sites you bookmarked get watched and you're emailed when a free one starts charging; no daily cap on lookups; your unchecked pages get looked at first.
- What membership never includes: any influence over a verdict, ours or anyone else's.
- The coloured dots stay free, unmetered and available to everyone, member or not. We will not degrade the free use to push membership.
Refunds
That is the whole policy. You don't need a reason, an order number helps but isn't required, and we won't try to talk you out of it. Refunds go back to the card you paid with, usually within a few working days — how fast it shows up is your bank's business, not ours.
Outside 30 days, we won't refund a year already running, but you can stop it renewing at any moment (below). If you're in the UK or EU, your statutory cancellation rights apply on top of this and are not reduced by anything on this page.
Renewal and cancellation
When you join, there is a plainly-worded, visible checkbox:
- Left ticked: you are charged $9.95 once a year, on the anniversary, at the same half price for as long as you stay. Stripe emails you a receipt each time.
- Unticked: you pay $9.95 for one year and nothing else. When the year ends, membership stops. Re-joining later costs the normal price — the half-price offer is tied to staying.
- To cancel: email us. One line is enough. There is no retention flow, no "are you sure", and nothing to click through. You keep what you paid for until the year runs out.
- If we ever raise the price, existing members keep the price they joined at for as long as they stay. If that ever became impossible, we would email you before charging you, not after.
The 5%
We give 5% of gross sales — not profit, gross — to a children's technology-access charity, and we publish the numbers. The figures are here, and you can ask us to prove them. The recipient has not been chosen yet; we will name it there when it has, and not before.
Who we are
ReallyFree is a small independent project, not a venture-funded company. It is operated from the United States by its founder, and the contact address on this page reaches a person, not a ticket queue. There is no support number to sit on hold with, because there is no support department — there is an inbox and someone who answers it.
Changes
If these terms change, the effective date at the top changes with them. Anything that changes what you pay or what you get will be emailed to members before it takes effect, not buried here.
